OVERVIEW

The Nibepo Aike Ranch Experience is one of the most authentic rural tours in Patagonia. Located within Los Glaciares National Park, this historic estancia preserves the pioneer spirit of the first settlers.

The day begins with a hotel pick-up from El Calafate around 8:00 AM and a scenic drive along the old estancias road bordering Lake Argentino and Lake Roca. Upon arrival, guests are welcomed with hot drinks and homemade pastries before visiting the old shearing shed, the corrals, and the traditional ranch buildings.

You’ll witness sheep herding and shearing demonstrations, and watch gauchos show their riding and lassoing skills. Afterward, enjoy a walk or optional horseback ride to La Angostura, where the waters of Lake Roca and Lake Argentino meet, with views of the Andes and the surrounding steppe.

Back at the ranch, a Patagonian lamb barbecue awaits—served with salads, dessert, and drinks—before returning to El Calafate in the afternoon.

The excursion is available daily from September 15 to May 15.

ITINERARY

The adventure starts at 8:00 AM with a hotel pick-up from El Calafate. Enjoy a scenic drive of about 1 h 15 min along Lake Argentino and into Los Glaciares National Park.

Upon arrival at Estancia Nibepo Aike, you’ll be welcomed with hot drinks, homemade pastries, and a short introduction to the ranch’s history. You’ll then tour the shearing shed, corrals, and the family’s original facilities, learning about traditional Patagonian sheep and cattle ranching.

Next comes the gaucho demonstration—observe sheep herding with dogs and the shearing process. Afterward, guests can either walk or take an optional horseback ride (45 minutes or 3 hours, depending on preference) toward La Angostura, a meeting point of Lake Roca and Lake Argentino with Andean views.

Returning to the ranch, you’ll enjoy a Patagonian lamb barbecue lunch with salads, dessert, and drinks, before relaxing at leisure.

The experience concludes in the afternoon, with transfer back to El Calafate around 4:30 PM.
